BRB Crying

I will blame mobile internet dependency for this delay. I hardly have time to sit down in front of my desktop these days. I have accumulated snaps from my P&S for uploads. Including these photos of week-old babies of Leighton.

My heart is crushed right now because two of these kitties died (Kitten, 31st and then Cotcot just today)

Kitten (September 23, 2011 - December 31, 2011)

CotCot (September 23, 2011 - January 1, 2012)

They were both struck with what I have suspected as deadly cat virus called, Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) which I later learned after Cotcot’s death. Yes, only after the death of the second Kitten because we assumed that Kitten died because of her past accident and was forever weakened. It is characterized by lack of appetite, weakness and nose discharges.

The million dollar question: Why didn’t I bring it to the vet? Because I primarily thought it was ear mite infection as Leighton was diagnosed with it and showed the same signs. Having brought her to the vet and I felt that I could provide home remedy for Kitten.

I still don’t know if my kittens were indeed struck by FIP. BTW Cotcot died at his new home so I didn’t have any control in sending him to the vet.

It might have come from Leighton, I really dunno but I came across this site:

In addition, most cats with FIP have a history of having had a stress of some sort – being neutered, rehomed, the introduction of a new kitten, etc.  Incubation for effusive FIP is usually a few days up to one month.  The incubation period for non-effusive FIP can be up to a year.

Leighton has been recently spayed and was living in the same big cage (the mansion) with Kitten and Cotcot. BUT these are all assumptions.

I still need to research more about FIP but the thing this virus is confirmed post-mortem

Lesson Learned: The first sign of weakness, loss of appetite bring them to the vet.
